Our goal for this trip was to highlight the ongoing difficulties experienced by children living in poverty in South East Asia. Overlooked by much of the world’s media, the region has a recent history of genocide, war and brutality that has affected millions of lives. Our journey will not solve all the region’s problems, but with your help, we can make things better for many people.
Leaving on Jan 6th from Singapore, the C2S team took on some of the most challenging terrain in Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia, seeking to experience the true nature of each country. Focusing on sites of historic, cultural and social importance, we have tried to raise the world’s awareness of children trapped in a cycle of poverty.
From Thailand’s bustling cities through Cambodia’s Killing Fields, Laos’s poverty-stricken mountains and Vietnam’s war-ravaged countryside, the trip formed an unforgettable imprint on the hearts of all of us. We focused on hope for the future, which lies with the region’s children. Poverty, genocide, war and oppression have left these innocent victims with limited options, but hundreds of people are working to provide education, nourishment, love and shelter to bring back the smiles.
Including emotional visits to SCV’s orphanages in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, we hope to highlight the tireless efforts of all the amazing people who dedicate their lives to improving those of others, as well as providing the finance necessary to supply basic sanitation and education for Cambodia’s orphans.
